NAG #9 – The White Night of the Art Galleries

On the night of April 24th, 2015, The White Night of the Art Galleries returns with its 9th edition featuring a dynamic program of contemporary art events and exhibitions hosted by forty galleries and thirty-two alternative venues.

NAG #9

The project ‘Art on Display’, initiated by Ephemair Association last year, returns with a series of site-specific artistic interventions in shop windows and high street venues located in the central area of Bucharest. On the map of the White Night of the Galleries, the public will discover two such interventions: in the courtyard of the George Enescu Museum and in a shop space on Calea Victoriei (Musette). “This approach to urban space is a reflection on the current aesthetic status of the city, imposing a dialogue with the overabundence of commercial images which fills our every day life. By punctuating the natural journey through the city with artistic works and interventions a tension is created between the images of ‘seduction’ built by the marketing industry and those generated by the artists’ need to reclaim a visible, accessible space of their own.”

About the organizer

Ephemair Association aims at developing cultural projects that promote Romanian and world contemporary art. Ephemair Association also takes on a social responsibility and an educating role towards young people by facilitating their access to the culture of their generation through cultural events that are as varied as possible. This year, too, the agenda of the White Night of the Galleries will include, next to the participating galleries’ own program, a series of exhibitions and events produced by Ephemair Association. Thus, either by intervening in unconventional spaces, as already shown in October 2014 in the “Art on Display” project, or by producing exhibitions in established contemporary art venues such as MNAC Anexa, we continue to promote contemporary art and encourage emerging artists.

2015 comes with a great challenge for Ephemair Association: the opportunity to produce and promote one of the two projects chosen to represent Romania within the 56th edition of the Venice Biennale. Thus, curator Diana Marincu’s project entitled “Inventing the Truth. On Fiction and Reality”, which will show the international public works by artists Michele Bressan, Carmen Dobre-Hametner, Alex Mirutziu, Lea Rasovszky, Ștefan Sava and Larisa Sitar, continues the collaboration they had with Ephemair within the eighth edition of the White Night of the Galleries for the exhibition “Pasaj” (23 May – 12 July 2014, MNAC Anexa).
