The inspiring works of Moisés Mahiques
The complex works of Moisés Mahiques appear to focus on inner struggles of the contemporary individual, revealed through amazingly precise dynamics and inspiring studies of human motion, often rising from subtle details, fine lines and transparent fills of white on dark paper.
Unlike the multiplication or observation of a single gesture or movement, a variety of human states and emotions defined by tension, chaos or despair become one, an antagonistic force that fights from within and challenges the individual’s own existence and meaning. These struggles are personal and may reflect self-constructed barriers, fears and frustrations. It is interesting how alienation has a direct impact on human form, and how the figurative becomes almost abstract depending on the intensity of the scene depicted by the artist, yet trying to remain present, tangible before the viewer.
Beyond the inner conflicts that may result from the collision with a reality that is not compatible with one’s expectations and aspirations, there are also aspects of society that interest Moisés Mahiques such as the obsession with money, control and power, and how these addictions blind us leaving us without judgement and compassion.
