Jana & JS – Forget the outside @ INOPERAbLE Gallery
INOPERAbLE Gallery is hosting the solo show “Forget the outside” by Austrian/French artist-couple Jana & JS, running through March 7th, 2015 (Tue-Fri, 12.00-18.00, Sat 12.00-17.00).
The exhibition highlights the impact of the outside world on human relationships, using the image of desolate urban landscapes and rusted architectural structures as a reflection of fragile emotions and feelings of melancholy and nostalgia. The characters, often blindfolded couples, with their heads wrapped in veils of silence, experience solitude together. The artist duo also focuses on the theme of memory, so this strange state of being apart and together at the same time may be a reference to the incapacity to see or remember the presence of the other, to the fact that people forget and gradually care less about the values that unite them – love, compassion, respect.
Left wandering alone in the grey city, the characters find themselves trapped inside a labyrinthine decaying society, defined by emptiness and uncertainty.
