Gabriel Caloian

What are you doing in your life?

“I am one of those who are/ When I’ll be more…/ I shall disrupt my character of the earth”.

So begins Gabriel his self-characterization, in a lyrical preface, being also the first specialist in himself… I shall not say who I pretend to be as we will all burst, so it is easier to describe what I imagine I am. Therefore, I am exactly how I stand, but a little advantaged by the absence of a coherently assumed reality, without being permanently affected by what is called immediate.

Are you born an artist or do you become one?

I do not clearly remember being an innate creative, but probably the study of human genotype will reveal the heredity of creativity. It’s just that art, one of the product forms of creativity, is a social-cultural phenomenon in its origins. Man is creative, thus detaching himself from other life forms, and what makes him an artist is the application of creativity through a more or less aesthetic formula.

What, where and how do you see?

I see with the corner of my eye, I see while starring, I see what I mustn’t, I see what it is seen, I see what we all see, I see what I want, I see and capture things which I stop from their action and rapidly translate them to not disappear. I generally work stimulated by an expansive state which does not allow intent, and only after the explosion of semiconscious hazard dissipates, I start freshening the result with aesthetic elements and stylistic ornaments generated by rational flow. Finally, I remain amazed at how the subconscious issues at the surface forms of unaltered expression.

How do you create and when are you ready to show yourself?

I create trying to ignore the explicit formula of reality and expose when I am impressed enough by the result.

How do you see yourself in the 11172014 project and what do you expect from it?

11172014 is an unprecedented project in which I participate together with 16 other professional artists, project where the stylistic variety is coagulated by a default thematic unity that stimulates a temporary marathon trail.

According to the geographical distance preventing me to physically take part in the events, I am only left to infer the public’s reaction or judge from the images posted online.

What is the role of creativity and art in human life?

Art is the best brain wave with which man translates the subtleties of things and turns him into a small designer of personal reality.

Ask yourself a question and answer it.

Ho are you, Gabriel? How are you feeling?

I feel good!
