The drawings of Mihai Rațiu
Mihai Rațiu is a student at “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture, in Bucharest. At first, he tried to use his drawing skills “to show the flaws of modern society”.
His first “piece of art” was a sheep with a gun pointed at its head, as it intended “to commit suicide because it didn’t want to join the crowd”.
“After a couple of months, I realized that the world is still so big and complex and a handful of drawings will never succeed to bring society on a different path, maybe a better one. Thus, I continued my work, but with a different vision. Now I was enjoying it and feeling amused by it. I started drawing animals with human political positions, weird creatures and characters which were often perceived as creepy”.
His favorite drawing tool is ink: “I find it pretty challenging and I really like the harmonious contrast between a white sheet and the black lines”.
Mihai is still searching for the right way to put his thoughts on paper: “I am at a point where I am really critical about my work. My public activity as a graphic artist began recently, when I participated at an exhibition at Imbold Gallery, among various Romanian artists. In my opinion, I think I have much more work to do and fill a countless number of pages with my drawings and only then I could reveal my artwork in a personal exhibition”.
