Vermibus – Unveiling Beauty

Unveiling Beauty is the latest project of Vermibus (featured), an artistic response to the way the fashion industry reduces beauty to body and physical appearance by imposing specific standards of aesthetics according to marketing purposes, with the ultimate goal to sell products and maintain the consumerism illusion believable, so that people can adhere to this false and forced ideal of how we should look, regardless of how we feel.

In his new public interventions following the route of the most influential Fashion Weeks in some of the world’s leading cities in this regard, the artist highlights the consequences of losing one’s inner beauty, and identity, in a continuous effort of retouching, never perfect enough to stop and become aware of what is truly beautiful inside us. This obsession with the official beauty cult affects mostly women, but also men, with a significant impact on personal trust and development, on human relationships, how we interact and perceive ourselves in relation to the other and the environment we live in.

Another aspect that interests the artist is the major role of advertising in the fashion propaganda and how it abusively invades public space. Therefore, Vermibus has decided to use this media to convey his message, replacing posters with disfigured fashion models using solvents to show the grotesque existing beyond the mirage of the catwalk, the glossy magazines and deceitful texts constructing and addressing the human need of acceptance.
