Recent works by Toni Spyra

It is easier to accept things as they are, based on appearance, labels and generally approved instructions for a correct interpretation, instead of questioning their given meanings and functionalities. We think in terms of what is possible, according to common beliefs and following the safe social conduct. This comfort, the ignorance and boredom of everyday life is challenged by the objects and installations of Toni Spyra.

Entertaining through the humorous and sarcastic approach, his artistic interventions are meant to make the viewer aware of the surrounding environment in a bold and thought-provoking way of changing the perspective and perception, the way we see. Ironically, this change is possible not through major, but small modifications, additions and alterations of mundane and familiar objects, those which we hardly conceive they could serve another purpose.

Using the freedom of manifesting his ideas in the public space, Toni Spyra highlights the limits we have build around and between us, and he invites his audience to participate in the creative process. His unusual intersections and combinations comment on real social problems and the absurd way we deal with them. The contrast between the work itself and the title also reflects human behavior nowadays, the contradiction between words and actions, between illusion and the reality we fail to acknowledge or doubt.
