Tara von Neudorf – Tara loaded | NAG #9
The exhibition “Tara loaded”, hosted by H’art Gallery (25 Rosetti Street, Bucharest), part of NAG #9, marks the 40 year anniversary of the artist and includes works from the past 17 years of his artistic activity.
For Tara von Neudorf, history is very different from what we learn in school. Often using old schoolroom maps from the communist era and drawing his own history books, Tara presents his personal vision of what he considers to be the honest course of events, with a focus on the context of the place where he was born – Transylvania.
He challenges all official discourses that truncate and distort the identity and values that are the foundation of one’s culture and past, highlighting the consequences of historic moments and political decisions, as well as important social aspects of cause and effect – poverty and corruption, manipulation and ignorance, terror and hopelessness. His army related symbols, bloody images, oppressive regimes and religious references have a powerful impact on the viewer who is confronted with the “Black Rumania”, and is introduced to the contradictions of a grotesque reality defined by fear, lie and deceit.
