Preview: Saddo – A Stranger in the Garden @ BC Gallery
We are excited to announce Saddo’s solo show “A Stranger in the Garden”, opening Friday, March 13th, 6 pm, at BC Gallery, running through April 25th, 2015 (opening hours: Wed-Sat, 1 to 6 pm).
The exhibition explores the idea of death, a haunting concern in human society, one that has been represented in various ways in many myths, folk stories, rituals and religions across the globe. Taking inspiration from how death is seen and perceived depending on time, culture and beliefs, with some even opposite attitudes, the artist offers the viewer a collection of personifications of death, with ever changing meanings and interpretations.
The title of the show (a play on “Death in the Garden” – the title of a Luis Bunuel movie), defines the complete mystery which surrounds this complex subject, that is part of our lives while we still hope for immortality.

About Saddo
Saddo is a Romanian artist, he studied Graphics in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where together with a few friends he founded one of the first Romanian street art collectives, about 10 years ago. Since then he’s been through lots of phases and had many different influences, from cartoons, sci-fi and fantasy books and movies, street art, Renaissance art, the works of Arcimboldo, Brueghel, Bosch, Walton Ford, naturalistic illustrations of plants and birds, floral patterns, and many others. He lived all over Romania, one year in Berlin, one year in Lisbon, time during which he was influenced by the vibe of each city, by the local history and imagery, and he tried to perfect his technique and subjects with each new project. His latest body of work draws influence from myths, religious imagery, and touches on subjects like violence in human history, the passing of time, nostalgia for a lost luxurious paradise, mortality and death.
