Pierre Schmidt / Drømsjel: New series

The new series by Berlin-based artist Pierre Schmidt, also known as Drømsjel (previously featured on The re:art), combines illustration and collage to offer a surreal version of reality, where the unconscious leads the conscious.

The artist deconstructs vintage images of women, men and children, and adds unexpected elements such as sliced or multiplied animals and rich floral motifs, staring eyeballs and various geometric shapes. Simple daily activities – walking the dog, drinking coffee or talking on the phone, and the stereotypes of human habits gain new meanings in Schmidt’s complex imagery, where everything decomposes and transcends the familiar realms of our world.
