Hope and the journey between dream and reality

Living and working in Bari, Italy, Hope (b.1982) is a self-taught artist, who creates stories inspired by the world of fables and fairy tales. Among these, the one that influenced him most was “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

Hope describes his work as the search for a “nostalgic picture between dream and reality”. His characters, the childish figures, travel through the universe to find new destinations or simply a place where they can get lost, “to become kings” of their small kingdom, playing and enjoying their time in small wood houses, palaces of wonders, where they feel safe and share their childhood memories.

“I love the universe and the stars, an intangible, suspended and magic space. Maybe, because it is unreachable, mysterious and not even explored, that we perceive that elusive magic feeling which still enchants us.

The drawn scenes appear ephemeral to the eyes of the viewers, because they have the vague memory of a childhood that time has taken away too quickly.”

The technique he currently prefers is the china, and sometimes watercolors. The artist is also part of hope/gig street art duo, with Luigi Loquarto
