Hell’O Monsters @ Delimbo Gallery
Brussels-based artist collective Hell’O Monsters will have a solo show entitled “Nameless Coterie” at Delimbo Gallery, in Seville, Spain, from September 25th, 2014 to January 15th, 2015.
The collective – Jerôme Meynen, François Dieltiens and Antoine Detaille – emerged in the late 1990s, and in the past over ten years of activity they explored a variety of mediums, from wall art and graffiti letters to characters, ink drawings, paintings and even sculpture and installation.
Their rich visual language, with rigorous execution and a complex imagery revealing a fantastic world, populated with enigmatic hybrids, human-looking yet with animal features, is inspired from the iconography of fairy tales, fables, and other medieval allegories, and also ancient and contemporary mythologies, vanities, esotericism and surrealism.
Among their recurrent themes, death, hope, failure or optimism, animalism, frivolity, cruelty or the desire to control play an important role in their work. And finally, a dose of humour and mockery completes most pieces, as well as the contrasting mix of both joyful and macabre, amusing and frightening, absurd and meaningful. So, behind the seemingly happy faces, stand powerful comments on human nature and society.
The opening of the exhibition will take place on September 25th, starting 9 p.m.
