Finok – The Burial of the Rooster @ Underdogs Gallery
The solo show “O Enterro do Galo” (The Burial of the Rooster) by Brazilian artist Finok is hosted by Underdogs Gallery until the 28th of February, 2015 (Tue – Sat, 2 pm – 8 pm, Rua Fernando Palha, Armazém 56, Lisbon, Portugal).
In his current exhibition, the artist reflects on the human need of understanding and belonging, linked to various manifestations of belief, of spiritual, religious or popular nature: “Finok explores here a universe of devotional and popular celebration practices of a syncretic quality, while also taking in the connections of origin and proximity between several elements of popular and traditional culture shared by Portugal and Brazil”.
We like how the variety of colors, with a great focus on red and green, combines with specific symbols and geometric patterns that help construct the Brazilian inspired imagery, as well as the expressiveness of his distinctive characters. The installation view is also inspiring, allowing visitors to experience simultaneously different emotions and states, from a meditative state to inner happiness, highlighted through the masks of his beautifully outlined characters.
The exclusive, limited-edition lithographic print by Finok features a representation of a votive offering to the Orishas, evoking the world of Brazilian popular beliefs. The print will be released on February 18th, 2015 – 5pm GMT and it will be available here.
