Ada Muntean – Soft Hollow
In her solo show “Soft Hollow”, Ada Muntean reveals the mutation society produces in the human nature, a shift from organic to mechanical, from emotion to an unsettling artificial state of man, who becomes and acts as a robot, losing touch with the essence of things, emptied of meaning and purpose.
Ephemeral traces of human presence are found in fingerprints, in silent signs of revolt, yet the heart has lost its beat, the physical form is no longer recognizable, there are no more individuals, only patterns and a suffocating repetition of the same features, failing to compose an identity and build a character.
While the drawings highlight the transformation and gradual loss of once natural attributes, the photographic part of the project, created in Canary Wharf, in London, warns of the near possible future, as threatening and hostile as the skyscrapers. Conceived for Atelier Patru (Atelier Four) in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, in December 2015, the show “coagulates into one room, as the items live on their own, individually, but collectively as well. They function within the space as a stand-alone mixed media installation. The employed techniques are drawing and photography. Moreover, there appears another coordinate, i.e. the music playing in the background, in connection to the pieces. The perception of the exhibition space is shaped as a simultaneous process: seeing the items and hearing the accompanying breakbeat music that creates a specific atmosphere, a sensation of a cold hi-tech world.”
