WHAT THE WEEKEND IS GALLERY
THE ART UNION presents the group show WHAT THE WEEKEND IS GALLERY, opening on April 28th, 19.00-24.00h, on view through May 1st, 2016 at Urban Spree Galerie (Revaler St. 99, in Berlin-Friedrichshain). The exhibition features artworks by Berlin based artists, both renowned and emerging, mainly born after 1980 and coming from various cultural backgrounds, not only Germany – Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Chile, Japan, Canada, others originating from the Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Russia, Switzerland, Spain, Hungary, the USA and the UK.
The title is a humorous reference to the official Berlin Gallery Weekend, which takes place at the same time. Through this initiative, THE ART UNION highlights urban contemporary art by introducing diverse artistic perspectives following the idea of one city/ one weekend/ one gallery/ 58 artists. According to the organizers, the show “is thematically created along the lines of different subgenres and styles of this young genre of art in a non-representative way”.
Opening hours: Thursday, 28th of April: 19-24h / Friday, 29th of April: 12-19h / Saturday, 30th of April: 12-19h / Sunday, 1st of May: 12-18h (free entry).

About THE ART UNION
Founded in 2015, the non-profit association THE ART UNION is run by key players in the fields of art and culture with expertise in the communication of art, art funding and visual communication. Daily working practice has exemplified a gap between artists, their audience and the art market, which is difficult to overcome. THE ART UNION intends to build a bridge between these aspects and create formats to professionalize artists and initiate discourses within the scenes. The organization of exhibitions and participation in festivals are as much a vital part of the concept as are artist residencies, funding and exchange programmes.
THE ART UNION will receive an entry in the National Register of Associations in the first half of 2016.
