Introducing Serpentine Series Project
Serpentine Series Project gathers representatives of the Romanian artistic field that reveal interest in exploring and mixing various forms of expression, such as dance, theatre, music and fashion. Here are some of their latest projects.
Photographer Tiberiu Mihail Cimpoeru captures motion in its most thrilling and entrancing state, transforming the gestures of dancers Irina Strungăreanu and Relu Dobrin into an image of becoming one, highlighting the exhausting struggle, the intense fall and powerful rise of a new self, a new being which we are not able to distinguish. We like the transfer of energy from a body to another through the infinite multiplication of fragments to form a whole, which seems intangible, as if matter rapidly evaporates during this bizarre metamorphosis. Another recent project of SSP is “VERLOREN” (German lost), bringing under Relu Dobrin’s direction costumes designed by Emilian Ciobanu, music by Alin Zăbrăuțeanu and the cinematography of Sebastian Florea to challenge the viewer to explore the aesthetics of an agonizing search for the lost paradise. According to its creators, the production attempts to translate the term “verloren” as “an extension of the human mindset and delivers a commentary on the constant rejection that a fragile and helpless character is condemned to.” The composition highlights the restlessness of the spirit and how “we experience the passion of each exploration and we surrender to the reality of every defeat.”
