The works of Ong Lijie
Singapore-based illustrator Ong Lijie focuses on drawing and printmaking, and is interested in themes of the consciousness, the coming of age, and corporeality.
The series ‘A Phase of Juvenile Autonomy’, for instance, reflects her concerns of entering and discovering womanhood, creating “narratives brimming with metaphors, weaving morbidly lush landscapes and anatomized bodies in my journey to translate a disoriented reality of vulnerability and self-awareness”.
This fascination for the unknown is often illustrated with very personal and visually powerful images. Her works are a result of an introspective process that reveals the inner experiences and emotions, the story of the self, its limitations and constant evolution.
