Oana Stanciu – The !EU project

The “!EU” (“!ME”) project of young Romanian artist Oana Stanciu consists of a series of ten photographs and two films representing her as a bizarre character, taking many unusual forms. The project is a further exploration on the self-portraits theme which particularly interested Oana in university and followed her “Self portrait with long neck” series.

In her distorted black and white self-portraits, she reconsiders her identity and creates various other states of the self.

For the “!EU” project, she was inspired by artists such as Cindy Sherman, Man Ray, Claude Cahun, Diane Arbus, but also fascinated by the strange universe of the circus.
