Outstanding works and animations by Merlin Flügel
The minimalist black and white animations and works of Merlin Flügel are profound and arresting, an extraordinary examination of human identity and camouflage, as well as a reflection of inner experiences and relationships, of our absurd behavior, fears and obsessions.
Envisioning individuals as participants in the social spectacle, Merlin Flügel attaches masks to his mysterious characters highlighting their lack of direction and certainty. Under the spell of invisible forces, confused, lost in the mist of an intense feeling of nothingness, rather distant and isolated than connected with each other, the characters seem trapped in their own illusion, unable to define and follow a clear path, until they finally fade away into darkness.
PERSONA
Presented as a newspaper, PERSONA is a graphic exploration of the mask concept, a part of our daily life and symbol of the social roles we adopt, separating us from one another and influencing us inside and out. Despite the mask or multiple masks we use to interact with or hide from others and ourselves, the artist believes that we can never be completely opaque.
