MAT•TER / Lucio Aru & Franco Erre Photography

Lucio Aru & Franco Erre are two talented photographers currently based in Berlin, with main focus on fashion photography.

Their current project, entitled MAT•TER, explores the various meanings attached to different words. Take the noun ‘matter’ for example, commonly used to define a physical substance, but can also refer to a certain affair or situation, have a negative denotation or simply mean ‘the substance or content of a text as distinct from its manner or form’. Therefore, to understand the meaning of a word is to understand its context. So what happens when the context becomes a concept?

Instead of accurately representing each of the chosen words for the series, Lucio & Franco offer the viewer an unexpected and humorous twist to what we consider so ordinary and familiar in language.

Enjoy an utterly delightful selection, where simple words playfully change their meanings through a clever visual juxtaposition between text and image.
