Gaia Alari reveals the intricacy of human nature
Milan-based self-taught artist Gaia Alari, also known as Marie-Esther, focuses on depicting ethereal and overlapping images, aiming to represent the intricacy of human nature, psyche and emotions.
Mostly using mixed media on paper, her conceptual illustrations and emotive portraits reveal characters trapped in their own fears, locked inside their memories, tied up to their haunting and overwhelming experiences or growing cold as a result of their journey in life. Ropes become a visual metaphor for these inner struggles, while we also notice a peculiar geometry embedded in the works.
We like the powerful impression of witnessing an intense scene, that is always continuous, like a never ending dream, a shield against the outside world, but at the same time a state that cannot manifest without the constant presence of and intersection with reality.
