A visit to EASTWARDS PROSPECTUS
During Bucharest Art Weekend, we visited a new art space, EASTWARDS PROSPECTUS (50 Plantelor Street, District 2), where two exhibitions are currently hosted: ‘5 chambers’ by Radu Cioca (previously featured on The re:art) and ‘Progress’ by Karolina Breguła (curator: Teodora Dinu).
According to the gallery, the exhibition of Radu Cioca presents a series of artistic experiments relevant for the artist’s practice in the last 4-5 years. The 5 chambers display offers the visitor the opportunity of a rich visual experience from one room to the other, with ‘multilayered narratives that investigate the spiritual universe and the elements that contaminate it’. The connections rising from a silent dialogue between the works reveal what the artist often defines as ‘relative truths’. Interrogating the given reality by taking everyday details to challenge and change the big picture, the artist further explores the inner reality, showing and analyzing their intersecting points.
‘Progress’ consists in a series of five video works by multimedia artist Karolina Breguła, focused on the concept of art. ‘The variety of situations created by the artist compels the public to reconsider their take on art in post-postmodern times, thus trying to institute progress. Purposefully constructed, the layout of the exhibition is triggering a reflective state around concepts imbued in the works such as culture, memory, innovation, mediocrity, revolution’ .
Both exhibitions can be visited until December 20, 2014.
