3 years of Art Yourself Gallery • Anniversary exhibitions

For their 3 year anniversary, Art Yourself Gallery (read interview) had three exhibitions. Below are a few highlights from the group show ‘Exotic’, part of the project 11172014 and Radu Rodideal’s solo show ‘Nostalgia’.

 

EXOTIC / PROJECT 11172014

‘Exotic’, the 8th exhibition of the project 11172014, explores the idea of exoticism, diversity and our relationship with the other in the current context, where different cultures, spaces and times intersect in an online environment. However, inside the art gallery, we find the mystery we long for and discover new visions that still amaze us.

RADU RODIDEAL – NOSTALGIA 

Painting and music are the two means of artistic expression that Radu Rodideal harmoniously combines in his complex project ‘Nostalgia’. He started the project in October 2012 and finally reached his goal in September 2014.

 

According to the artist, 840 animation frames were painted, however, only 37 have remained in a physical form. The process was direct, consisting in repainting and sequential shooting the same support, while the music in the animation was a result of a single recording.

As for the concept, the project is a metaphor revealing the effort of reconciliation with the self through a character who, anchored in the past, attempts suicide on a daily basis leaving luck to decide in his favor.
