Vlad Olariu – Wasteland Empire | NAG #9

The solo show “Wasteland Empire” by Vlad Olariu, NAG #9 special event, on view until May 31st, 2015 (Thu – Sun, 10h00 – 18h00), is the first exhibition marking Sala Dalles – MNAC’s comeback as an urban exhibition cradle, especially for its windows space (former Libraria NOI space).

An absurd and seemingly random display of unfinished works seeking their final purpose, a curious disarray of objects and forms “lacking any real significance but prestigious looking”, apparently brought together with no reason but to catch the attention of the passerby. There is no monument to contemplate, no hero to admire.

“Elements of urban architecture meant to hide as efficiently as possible the waste which inconveniently surrounds us and is promoted as a sign of civilization are brought up by the presence of the latrines. They represent a new antiheroic and antimonumental discourse which suggests social equality, not being regarded merely as esthetic objects of the modernist paradigm.Cynical humour is the only thing that counteracts the apparent kitsch.”
