Oliver Merce: Short stories

‘Short stories’ is the recent series of Romanian photographer Oliver Merce (previously featured here), with pictures taken over the past two years. Noticing that some of his works were related to each other, he began juxtaposing them so that a new story would result: “The images refer to the cycle of life and death, trying to pay attention to the brief episode that a being traverses on its way to eternity”. Some photos are dramatic, and, as Oliver explains, “mostly determined by the adverse effects caused by the human involvement in this cycle”.

The black and white choice strengthens the visual impact of the series, while the tension captured in certain moments or the contrasts, as well as the relations between the subjects and elements, add an emotional and powerful sense to the works.
