WESR @ Sketchmate Festival in Chieri, Italy
Berlin-based artist WESR was recently a guest of Sketchmate festival in Chieri, Italy, where he painted a new mural.
Danny Figueroa aka WESR was born in 1980 in the capital of Peru, Lima, where he also started his career as a “grafitero” in 1996. His growing up was strongly affected by the cultural clash in which the ethnic traditions of his country were being confronted with the upcoming Americanization which made him learn how to deal with a visual overdose of the combination of different styles. This is also reflected in his art, in which he brings together the aesthetics of traditional and contemporary Japanese graphic illustrations with elements of Peruvian indigenous art. His oeuvre ranges between muralism, painting and illustration and is marked by abstract figures with mask-like faces that might remind of early 20th century futurism. Since 2008 he lives and works in Berlin.
