Stefhany Yepes Lozano: Visions of the Future

The series of acrylic on paper works Visions of the Future by Colombian artist Stefhany Yepes Lozano, on view at Black Gallery in Jerez, Spain, shows a world shaped by goals of comfort, leisure and entertainment. This imagined era of lavish lifestyle and fulfilled pleasures seems a result of man’s contact with extraterrestrial beings, that have shared their technology, culture and habits with the less advanced civilization.

A new species has emerged. Human-like characters appear to borrow either animal or alien features, while others have experienced mutations – two-headed, cyclops, dog/duck-faced women and men are common figures. Nature itself has found a home inside the cozy residences of these carefree creatures, engaged in sports activities, odd rituals, occasional and sometimes superficial interactions with each other.

The recurring minimalist pastel-colored and pattern-based interior design feels like there is one home where the major party of an unforeseen future is taking place. And it looks so welcoming as if the only thing separating those still living in present times from joining the reunion is a fancy dress.
