MEDO: Sacred art and the horror of the inevitable
In the vision of Brazilian artist MEDO, humor, sex and death manifest themselves and are perceived as the only free and absolute truths that man can reach today.
Building on these pillars, he introduces us to a system of doubtful faith, of haunting fears and enslaved spirits, where false beliefs and the ego imprison the individual, and the deceived mind becomes a trap for the soul, limiting one’s freedom to see, to feel and act.
The main themes and elements he approaches refer to sacred art, theological contradictions and the horror of the inevitable.
His characters, the “incoherent saints”, are lost in abandoned places or left behind in the ruins of time, “staring at the skies for impossible answers”, tormented, mutilated by their own inner struggles, and hoping to get out of their illusory cages. Their faces are hidden behind geometric masks and dark shades, as perhaps their fate is universal.
