New works by MEDO in São Paulo
Through his artistic interventions mainly in abandoned places and on the streets of São Paulo, MEDO (featured) questions authority revealing the contradictions and hypocrisy of the control systems and false perceptions contemporary society is based on, at the same time introducing us to their creators, victims and those who blindly follow the orders and path set by induced beliefs and manipulated faith.
His works unfold the links between religion, death, politics and war, showing the mechanisms which influence human thoughts and actions, leading inevitably to a painful end. The dark characters seem unable to acknowledge their state, although the artist suggests that their gestures may present signs of true hope. The blackness that is striking in MEDO’s art, with rare use of intense red and yellow, completes the grotesque deformity of the silhouettes reflecting the psychological mutilation of individuals in a torturing and terrifyingly real world.
