The harmonious and detailed works of Luigi Loquarto
The works of Italian artist Luigi Loquarto aka gig (also part of hope/gig street art duo) often depict birds which have lost their natural ability to fly. Descending from the sky, the bird seems to pass through a process of metamorphosis, becoming more as a tree, deeply rooted in the land of gig’s imagery.
And yet this strong connection arises between all natural elements and beings, resulting in a harmonious state. You can feel the well alternating full and empty spaces, while the highly detailed brush strokes and lines develop an absolutely realistic visual plot.
The drawings are “scratches, blunt lines scratched with determination and softness, thin black layers of smart Indian ink”. And as Luigi adds, “geometric shapes or simple conglomerated of smoothed edges slow down the rhythm of the picture, reassure and let the eyes rest”.
