Bucharest Biennale 6
The 6th edition of Bucharest International Biennial of Contemporary Art will take place this year between May 23rd and July 24th.
Interested in the link between creative practice and social development, Bucharest Biennale brings together an international vision of art and the opportunity of cross-cultural exchange, connecting the local art scene with European and global contexts.
This year, “the exhibition will explore the double meaning of the word apprehension, the fear or anxiety that something bad might happen and in the sense of comprehension” (extras from the curatorial text by Gergő Horváth).

“The space of the hall is turned into a rupturing forum by placing a wooden structure with a platform and benches for the visitors. The platform is cut into two symmetrical half-spaces that aim to re-stage two dimensions of the contemporary arts field: art which is accompanied by an explicatory discourse or with a shape owing to verbal conceptualisation; and art with a non-verbal and primarily material discourse. On the one side are artists who, generically speaking, sit and paint on an easel, but they can practice any other classical form of art (sculpture, drawing, object installation, photography), on the other, artist who explain their works, conceptualising (performance, speech, dance, happening). On the one hand are visual arts, and of the other, performative arts. The audience is urged to assist and turn into an art critic and make critical judgements”.

“This exhibition presents itself as a temporary alternative to a museum and explores a plethora of artistic gestures, not so present in Romanian museums. The recent works of Bogdan and Magda Pelmuş aren’t yet authorized by the museum, but their discourses chronicle contemporary life, with its pressing social issues and the shifting concepts of freedom, manipulation, depression, paranoia, magic, passion, love, kitsch”.
Dan Raul Pintea, Bogdan Rancea/ Live painting, Electronic Performance at GOLDEN FRAME 030202 # 4 / May 23 – June 18, 2014/ ATELIER 030202 Gallery
