The works of Alina Vergnano

Sweden-based Italian artist Alina Vergnano experiments with a wide range of techniques and media. Her works – drawings, paintings, murals, ceramics and even animation – impress through their powerful minimalism, through concept, emotion and elegant lines. She prefers black ink and black paint to highlight contrasts or subtle similarities, and this choice strengthens the expressiveness of her mysterious and silent female silhouettes, the gestures of her characters that bloom or float in her simple yet complex universe.

Reading her interviews, we notice that Alina Vergnano is interested in human behavior and the relationships that result from the interaction with the other, in revealing the honest feelings that we often hide or deny. She carefully observes people, their words, their moments together, the way they relate with each other or with their own selves. Therefore, the women that are beautifully and so naturally outlined in her works become symbols of the variety of feelings, thoughts, experiences, leaving behind a memorable image that can stand as a universal mirror, a reflection of the contemporary man/ woman.
